Internships

The Chicago Crime Commission's internship program has been an important function of the organization for the past 20 years, providing undergraduate and graduate students with direct experience working in the criminal justice system. Interns gain a firsthand view of the criminal justice system and valuable insight into career opportunities within the criminal justice field. At any given time, the Commission is involved in a variety of projects in which students play an integral role, including:
  • Analyzing crime statistics and gathering information for both the Research & Operations Manager and Executive Director for the development of reports and presentations;
  • Conducting research on Chicago's anti-gang initiatives in hopes of finding ones suitable for partnership with the CCC;
  • Attending meetings and seminars sponsored by the Commission, other criminal justice agencies, the media and government;
  • Conducting Internet searches on various criminal justice topics, including gangs, gambling, drug trafficking, and other illegal activities;
  • Assisting in responding to access inquiries pertaining to our Organized Crime Archives;
  • Finding available grants that the CCC is eligible to apply for and assist in drafting grant proposals;
  • Maintaining the "News of Interest" section of our website;
  • Assisting the office manager in fundraising, event planning and community network projects;
In addition to worthwhile and varied experiences doing criminal justice research, we provide our interns with unique opportunities for tours of select criminal justice agencies, including the Cook County Jail, Chicago Police Department Headquarters and Crime Lab, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, Cook County Criminal Courts, the Metropolitan Correctional Center and a ride-along with the Chicago Police.
