12/26/2013 -- World's most powerful drug cartel now in PH
"The world's most powerful drug cartel is now making forays into Philippine territory with the discovery of a shabu storage facility in Lipa, Batangas holding nearly half a billion pesos worth of drugs, government authorities said Thursday.
The Sinaloa Cartel is often described as the largest and most powerful drug trafficking organization in the Western Hemisphere. A New York Times article said the cartel is responsible for the creation of underground tunnels that allowed the entry of drugs from Mexican border towns to the United States."

"Three suspects linked to the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel have been formally charged at the Department of Justice (DOJ), police said Thursday.
Couple Argay and Rochelle Argenos and Gary Tan are accused of violating Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and other charges, according to a complaint filed by the Philippine National Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (PNP-AIDSOFT)."

"Two government helicopter gunships opened fire on 10 vehicles fleeing a luxury beach condo complex during this week's gun battle at the Gulf of California resort of Puerto Penasco, Mexican authorities said.
New details emerged about the raging gun battle that ensued after federal forces tried to capture a reputed top lieutenant of the Sinaloa drug cartel who was staying at a beachfront villa."

"While drug cartels like the Zetas, La Familia, the Knights Templar and Beltrán Leyva syndicate continue to divide -- with violence often sparked off by struggles for power between members of the same groups -- Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, reputed head of the Sinaloa cartel, has been able to keep subordinates under his thumb. Top officials from the Mexican Department of Justice (PGR) told Milenio that El Chapo has proved himself a “skillful” leader since escaping from prison in 2011. And the Department believes that the Sinaloa cartel may be embroiled in a struggle with the Beltrán Leyvas for control of drug trafficking in the country’s capital.

12/20/2013 -- The Choke Point: The DEA Attacks ‘El Chapo’ in Chicago
"While Chicago battles a heroin epidemic, US law enforcement has focused its efforts on attacking the link between the street gangs running sales and their Mexican suppliers in the Sinaloa Cartel. The only problem: it’s the most difficult part of the chain to identify.
Heroin use is booming in the Chicago area. A US Justice Department report says heroin seizures increased three-fold between 2005 and 2011, and that heroin-related emergency room visits were more than three times the national average."

12/19/2013 -- New cartels show up in newly released list of Mexico's top 69 traffickers arrested or killed
"Mexican prosecutors have revealed the names of 69 top drug traffickers arrested or killed in the last year from a group of 122 most wanted capos that was drawn up at the start of President Enrique Pena Nieto's term a year ago.
The government had previously refused to say who was on the list, but provided some details to The Associated Press after the news organization filed a freedom of information request. The files name 60 drug cartel leaders who were captured since December 2012 and nine others killed by authorities. Prosecutors refused to identify the 53 capos still at large, saying they don't want to tip off the suspects."

12/17/2013 -- 11 drug arrests in Ariz. tied to Sinaloa Cartel
"Authorities have arrested 11 suspected members of a drug-trafficking organization linked to the Mexican Sinaloa Cartel that used stash houses in Phoenix and Willcox.
On Tuesday, officials from the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Border Patrol and the Internal Revenue Service announced the arrests of 11 of 13 suspected members of the Luis Armando Cruz drug trafficking organization (DTO)."

12/12/2013 -- 2 dozen indicted in takedown of Pasadena gang with Mexico drug ties
"Authorities indicted two dozen members and associates of a Pasadena-based gang that was working with the Sinaloa cartel to sell methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin from Mexico.
Dubbed Operation Rose Bud, the 18-month investigation targeted members of Varrio Pasadena Rifa, a multi-generational gang known to sell drugs in the city, the Antelope Valley and Kern County, Pasadena Police Chief Phillip Sanchez said during a news conference Thursday.

12/11/2013 -- Sinaloa Cartel Lieutenant "R5" Killed
"Jesus Gregorio Villanueva Rodriguez, aka "R5" was killed in Sonora today.
The Sinaloa Cartel lieutenant was in charge of Hermosillo operations.
Villanueva was travelling in his 2012 Passat Volkswagen, in the Hermosillo Colonia Pimentel at around midnight when the shootout occurred."
