A man was wounded in a shooting Saturday morning in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

The 26-year-old told investigators he was shot in the foot about 5:40 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Rhodes, according to Chicago Police."

01/15/2016 -- Two aspiring rappers charged with sex trafficking

"
Two aspiring rappers had a more lucrative business on the side, according to federal prosecutors — they used guns and violence to force girls into prostitution.

Samuel Nichols, aka Buck; and Charles Fears, aka Kash, were charged Friday with one count each of engaging in sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office."

01/14/2016 -- Man sentenced to more than 16 years for illegally selling guns


"
A Chicago man was sentenced to more than 16 years in a federal prison Wednesday for selling 11 guns to an undercover informant he thought was a high-ranking member of a Chicago street gang.

Terrence Griggs, 36, was sentenced to 200 months in prison for selling two shotguns, four pistols, three revolvers, two rifles and one bulletproof vest to an informant for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in 2011, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice."

01/13/2016 -- Police blame gangs, lack of cooperation for uptick in violence

" Amid frustration over an uptick in shootings and murders in Chicago, the city's acting police superintendent is blaming the city's gangs and victims who refuse to cooperate.

There have been nearly two people shot and killed a day since Jan 1. Police say the majority of the violence is gang-related, driven by social media. Additionally, gun arrests are down. Police say both issues are not caused by recent events surrounding the department."

01/11/2016 -- Murder charges in death stemming from yearslong gang conflict in Back of the Yards

"South Side man remains held in lieu of a $1 million bail after being charged with murder in a shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood that police said stemmed from a yearslong conflict between street gangs.

Juan Vasquez is accused of fatally shooting Ismael Lopez, 24, in the 4800 block of South Winchester Avenue in the early afternoon on April 29, 2015."

01/10/2016 -- 2 charged in slaying of 17-year-old boy

"Two men have been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a teenager in the Brighton Park neighborhood late Thursday, according to a news release.

Sergio Gonzalez and Jose Juarez, both 20, have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the killing of a 17-year-old boy in the 1300 block of West 41st Place at about 10:25 p.m. Thursday."
