"Chicago (CNN)Before President Barack Obama could officially announce his proposals to help curb gun violence two people had already been shot in his hometown of Chicago that day. About an hour after Obama spoke Tuesday, before pundits and candidates were done breaking down the proposals, it would rise to three."

01/06/2016 -- 4 fatally shot, including 2 teens, and 9 wounded on South, West sides
"Two men and two teens were killed in shootings that wounded nine others since Tuesday morning, Chicago police said.
The two teens were killed and a third teen wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Grand Crossing neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, police said."

"One man was killed and at least five other people were wounded in shootings Monday across Chicago, police said.
The man was shot to death Monday morning along a Safe Passage Route in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, according to Chicago Police."

01/03/2016 -- 3 men critically wounded in shooting near Gold Coast hotel
"Three men were critically wounded in a shooting near a Gold Coast neighborhood hotel early Sunday.
A 25-year-old was standing outside the W Chicago-Lakeshore hotel in the 600 block of North Lake Shore Drive about 2:15 a.m. when someone got out of a dark-colored SUV nearby and opened fire, according to Chicago Police. The shooter then jumped back into the SUV, which sped away westbound."

01/02/2016 -- 3 Dead, 21 Injured in Chicago Shootings on New Year's Weekend
"CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three men were killed and at least 21 others were wounded in Chicago shootings on New Year's weekend.
In the latest fatal shooting, a 33-year-old man was shot while sitting in a parked car around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 6100-block of South Sangamon, police said. Officials say the man was a known gang member."
